PhD Position in Sustainable investment in Real Estate
We offer an exceptional opportunity for a fully-funded Ph.D. position (0.8 – 1.0 FTE) to pioneer a game-changing approach to sustainable investment decision-making in commercial real estate.
Job description
The modern real estate investment landscape is at a turning point, as sustainability metrics and evolving regulations becomes more important. Nevertheless, current assessment methods often remain elementary, focusing on straightforward environmental and economic metrics. Your research will fill the critical gap between traditional assessment and new needs by creating an innovative game-theoretic framework for multi-actor and multi-criteria evaluation of sustainability measures in commercial real estate investments.
Research Objectives
- Critically assess existing sustainability measures in real estate investment.
- Design a game-theoretic model to evaluate multi-stakeholder impacts and criteria in investment decisions.
- Quantify the real-world influence of various investment scenarios on stakeholders.
- Contribute to policy design for incentivizing sustainable multi-stakeholder investments.
Your research will result in a robust game-theoretic tool that will contribute to the future of sustainable investment in commercial real estate.
Requirements
- A Master’s graduate (or soon-to-be) in Real Estate Management, Economics, Business Administration, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Exceptional proficiency in English; Dutch language skills would be advantageous due to our Dutch case studies.
- A highly motivated individual committed to academic excellence and keen on acquiring a Ph.D. degree.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, bolstered by excellent academic writing and communication abilities.
- Self-driven with a capacity to work in an interdisciplinary team environment.
- An innate sense of curiosity and a critical mindset
Doing a PhD at TU Delft requires English proficiency at a certain level to ensure that the candidate is able to communicate and interact well, participate in English-taught Doctoral Education courses, and write scientific articles and a final thesis. Conditions of employment
Doctoral candidates will be offered a 4-year period of employment in principle, but in the form of 2 employment contracts. An initial 1,5 year contract with an official go/no go progress assessment within 15 months. Followed by an additional contract for the remaining 2,5 years assuming everything goes well and performance requirements are met.
Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from € 2770 per month in the first year to € 3539 in the fourth year. As a PhD candidate you will be enrolled in the TU Delft Graduate School. The TU Delft Graduate School provides an inspiring research environment with an excellent team of supervisors, academic staff and a mentor. The Doctoral Education Programme is aimed at developing your transferable, discipline-related and research skills.

The Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment has a leading role in education and research worldwide.
